Corporate Social Responsibility

UNITE are winners of the Green Business category of the Middlesbrough Community Environment Awards 2009. See the press release for more information.

UNITE are passionate about putting into practice the principles of CSR. We have developed an Environmental and Recycling Policy and Procedure and we are making this a reality in many different ways. For example;

We have recycling boxes for glass, tin and plastic which are used daily by all staff.

We only use environmentally friendly cleaning products.

We only buy recycled paper.

We recycle all our toner cartridges.

We are about to receive cycling training from Middlesbrough Cycle Centre as part of our aim to reduce car use.

We use Fair Trade products on all of our training courses and at all of our Support Groups and Top-up Training sessions and Board of Directors meetings.

We have secured a plot of land at the Southlands Centre to develop into a growing plot for staff and volunteers to grow their own organic food, as well as getting exercise and fresh air. UNITE have been selected by Groundworks to be part of Community Growing 2010. Find out more here.

UNITE are working in partnership with Middlesbrough Environment City.

We support other community or charitable organisations through the year - in 2008 UNITE supported WaterAid and Macmillan Cancer Support. This year we are supporting Zoe's Place.

As part of UNITE's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility we have arranged with the Management of the Southlands Centre, Middlesbrough, to turn an unused piece of land within the Centre's grounds into an organic growing plot. UNITE's Board of Directors are backing staff in using some of their work time to develop and maintain the plot. We will be posting photos of the growing plot throughout the year to plot its progresses .

UNITE are winners of the 2009 Middlesbrough Green Business Award.
