Corporate Social Responsibility

UNITE are winners of the Green Business category of the Middlesbrough Community Environment Awards 2009. See the press release for more information.

UNITE are passionate about putting into practice the principles of CSR. We have developed an Environmental and Recycling Policy and Procedure and we are making this a reality in many different ways. For example;

We have a monthly Healthy Meal for staff in our office at the Southlands Centre. Sometimes we invite others to join us and raise money for other charities. In March 2011 we raised £50.00 for Comic Relief. Our next fund raising event is a coffee morning at the Southlands Centre at 10.00am on Thursday 6 October 2011. The proceeds will go to UNITE's Romanian project.

We have recycling boxes for glass, tin and plastic which are used daily by all staff and others in the Southlands Centre.

We only use environmentally friendly cleaning products.

We only buy recycled paper.

We recycle all our toner cartridges.

We use Fair Trade products on all of our training courses and at all of our Support Groups and Top-up Training sessions and Board of Directors meetings.

We have secured a plot of land at the Southlands Centre and developed it into a growing plot for staff and volunteers to grow their own organic food, as well as getting exercise and fresh air.

We organise Health & Well-being activities for staff and volunteers, for example, health walks, health checks and sporting activities.

We support other community and charitable organisations through the year.
